While cell signal made it tough to follow along on day two, the fishing was much tougher as winds seemingly eliminated a large portion of the productive fishable water. Anglers reported far fewer bites on and a lot more smaller fish.
Day one leader Brandon Perkins backed up efforts with another 21 pounds, 12 ounces on day two to extend his lead over the field to 12 pounds. With the water changing, and wins expected to blow, can Perkins hold on to seal the victory?
“I practiced for this North wind so I think my areas are a little better than other guys,” said Perkins. “It is definitely affecting me (the wind), but I think overall I am protected enough to fish how I need to fish.”
Behind Perkins, Patrick Walters and John Cox are in second and third, separated by just over two pounds apart, but 12 pounds back from Perkins. Both anglers had their main areas trashed by the wind and mud, and Cox believes that with cooling temperatures in the shallow water, the bigger bass may have moved back out a bit yesterday.
In fourth and fifth, Jesse Wise and Jason Wilson have been extremely consistent over two days of fishing. Both have weighed in mid to upper teens each day and should stay consistent on Showdown Saturday which will keep them near the top and open the door to move up if those above slip up at all.
The top five anglers after day one:
Brandon Perkins 51-5
Patrick Walters 39-5
John Cox 37-0
Jesse Wise 36-0
Jason Wilson 35-10
The official leaderboard going into to Showdown Saturday.
