Mid-Day Report – Cold Weather Not Slowing Anglers Down

A slower start on Day Two for the field, but local anglers are making a move.

The weather is warming, but the bite has slowed. While the field is experiencing a slower start to Saturday, reports indicate the afternoon bite should improve. Local anglers Corey Casey and Skeeter Crosby are lighting up the Fishing Chaos Catch Track.

Tougher Day for Top Anglers

Despite temperatures pushing 70 degrees, reports suggest a tougher bite across the board. The west wind, blowing 10-20 mph, has been a factor, and the fish have yet to turn on in full force.

For Day One leader Jordan Osborne, the morning has been slow. However, his Day One success came in the afternoon, and he remains confident. Fishing in a pond with clearer water than the surrounding area, Osborne started in the same spot where he set the NPFL single-day weight record. So far, he has landed two bass for over six pounds, including a five-pound kicker.

Behind him, Jason Christie anticipated having to adjust on Day Two and was eager to relocate his fish after weighing 31 pounds, 6 ounces on Friday. The Oklahoma pro is still two fish shy of a limit, leaving plenty of room to climb.

With high skies and limited cloud cover, anglers have turned to moving baits, including crankbaits, bladed jigs, and spinnerbaits, fished around cypress trees and other shallow cover.

Casey & Crosby Making Moves

The biggest movers of the day have been local anglers Corey Casey and Skeeter Crosby, who have jumped into the unofficial lead with monster bags on Saturday.

On-the-water photographers report that Casey is fishing a backwater area with scattered vegetation and much clearer water. He has already stacked over 28 pounds, including an 8- and 6-pounder.

Crosby has also topped 28 pounds with two quality kickers of his own. Behind them, Buck Mallory—who dropped a “dirty thirty” on Day One—has surpassed 20 pounds, working a 100-yard stretch with a bladed jig.

In fourth and fifth place, Bill Lowen has over 23 pounds, while Todd Goade has three fish for 16 pounds, including a 9-pound kicker. The gap between fourth and fifth is nearly nine pounds. Expect the top anglers to separate as the weekend progresses.
