Rising Above Negativity

In a sport where we share our successes and journeys with the public, it’s no secret that we sometimes encounter negativity. But now, more than ever, it’s crucial to focus on kindness, resilience, and the strength of our community. We all know that negativity can show up in the comments or in the chatter around us. That’s just part of life when you’re putting yourself “out there.” But resilience is like a muscle—we build it by focusing on the positive and remembering what truly matters. On a personal level, I’ve found that dealing with negativity is all about perspective. When tough comments roll in, I remind myself of the supportive voices that far outnumber the negative ones. It’s not always easy, but I try to meet that negativity with grace. Sometimes that means responding with kindness, and sometimes it just means tuning it out and focusing on the bigger picture—building a positive and welcoming fishing family. That’s why I’m committed to fostering a community that shares not just our catches, but also our encouragement and opportunities. As a guide, one of the most rewarding parts of what I do is helping others learn and grow on the water.
