One cool fact: This is more of a fond memory, but as a young boy, my GREAT Grandmother, Nellie, would take me fishing for bluegill on the farm pond with a 9’ CANE POLE. Most have never even seen a cane pole, let alone caught fish on one. When we needed more bait, she would send me out in the pasture behind us to fetch a fresh grasshopper. I remember those days like it was yesterday. Clearly etched in my minds eye. I can still feel the warm spring sunshine on our backs as we crouched down behind the tall bank grass, so as to not spook the fish away. Lofting a grasshopper out into the water amidst a school of wary bluegill with a cane pole took as much precision and skill then as skipping a jig under a dock now days. My great grandmother was a master as seen through the eyes of that young boy.
