It’s Showdown Saturday at Lake Lanier

Walters and Harkins battle it out for Lake Lanier victory on the Final Day of the 2023 Season.

With just shy of a 20-pound average, Patrick Walters leads the charge on the final day in Georgia. He took over the lead on day two from Will Harkins, who aside from Walters, is responsible for the two biggest bags of the tournament.

Both Walters and Harkins are dialed into their pattern and are concerned about local pressure for the final day. Walters noted there are “four or so” local derbies this weekend while Harkins already saw the effects of the pressure on day two.

Behind, the next two members of the “hammer house,” Mike Corbishley and Trent Palmer are six plus pounds back in the tournament but know they have a shot to get out of Lanier with a great check and NPFL championship qualification. Sliding into fifth place, Florida angler John Cox is a day away from sealing his championship berth as well.

Todd Goade is not letting up despite big charges from Jesse Wise and Will Harkins. Goade began the event with a 12-point lead and has added 10 points more on Wise after two days on Lanier. Harkins was 29 points behind to begin, and despite sitting in second place, Goade has all but matched the charge so far.

AOY Race

The Progressive AOY Race will be settled this afternoon at the Showdown Saturday weigh-in. It’s been a season-long battle that began with Todd Goade and Timmy Reams, with Jesse Wise and Will Harkins joining the conversation in the last two events. A consistent season for the top five anglers with Goade doing his best to keep catching fish.

Weather Watch

The final day will be full of sun for the NPFL anglers who are launching this morning into near 60-degree temperatures that will climb to nearly 80 degrees in the afternoon. Winds are expected to be light and variable. Some anglers have been calling for wind and once again, they are not in luck. Light and variable winds and high sun could make getting the finicky spotted bass to commit.
