The day one weights at Logan Martin may have exceeded angler expectations after a tough practice period with cold temperatures earlier this week, but there is more work to be done. With recent cold fronts, the lake is fishing small and added pressure to the lake could slow things down, as things heat up.

The weather forecast is going to be welcomed on day two with a warmer start and sunny skies projected for the day. A lot of anglers banked clues on day one and learned some valuable information as to where the fish are located and how things have changed since practice ended on Tuesday.

Jason Burroughs is one angler who never made a case on anything he fished in practice and completely utilized his eyes to located quality looking shallow banks that produced his day one leading 17-pounds, 2-ounces. Burroughs locked one bait in his hands all day filling a limit and culling three times.

Behind him, tied for second place, both Will Harkins and NPFL newcomer Buddy Gross both caught 16-pounds 9-ounces on day one but had vastly different days. Harkins played the visual game and fished over 40 spots picking out the right stuff with his eyes to catch his fish. Gross locked into an area and picked it apart noting he is sharing water with a fellow competitor and rode two big bites to a great start.

In Fourth, JTodd Tucker only utilized one of his main areas and capitalized on an early limit which allowed him ample time to move around and expand. He slowly culled up to his day one weight and is confident in his remaining areas for this morning.

Kyle Welcher kept things honest with a shortened day one due to fog, and sampled many different types of water until he got his first quality bite. Dialing in a pattern, Welcher learned what he needed to do and capitalized on his remaining bites to jump into the top five after day one.

There were 76 limits on day one with all but one angler weighing in a bass. With improving weather, day two should make for an interesting fishing day on live coverage for the top anglers.
