For over two decades, I’ve been chasing fish and dreams as a professional bass angler. From standing on championship stages to representing some of the best brands in the industry, this career has been an incredible ride. But even with all my experience, 2024 was a year like no other. It pushed me harder than I’ve ever been pushed—a season that tested my resilience, my resolve, and my faith in why I love what I do.
Looking back, I can honestly say that last year was the toughest of my career. I’ve had bad days on the water, but 2024 felt like one long grind. It wasn’t just one thing—it was everything. From mechanical failures and brutal weather to the ever-changing dynamics of the tournament trail, it seemed like every step was uphill. When you drive 25,000 miles a year chasing fish, the wear and tear—on your truck, your gear, and yourself—starts to catch up with you.
The Mental Game: Staying Strong on the Road
With tournaments spread across the country, I’m no stranger to long hours behind the wheel, but last year took that to a whole new level. Being away from home, family, and friends is tough. There were moments when nothing seemed to go right, and I started questioning everything—my choices, my abilities, and even my purpose.
What kept me going was finding ways to reset. Whether it was a quiet moment on the water before a tournament or swapping stories with other anglers, I leaned into the little joys. Every tournament, no matter how challenging, has a lesson to teach if you’re willing to listen. I had to remind myself that even on the hardest days, I’m still doing what I love—and that’s a gift.
Lessons Learned: Adapting and Growing
If there’s one thing I took away from last year, it’s that adaptability is everything. The fish don’t care about your plans. You can’t control the conditions, but you can control how you respond to them.
I made some changes—not just in my strategy but in my mindset. I worked on patience, letting go of frustration, and focusing on the process rather than the outcome. You don’t win every cast, every weigh-in, or every season, but you show up, you learn, and you keep casting. That’s what matters.
As I head into 2025, I’m bringing that perspective with me. I’ll proudly continue competing in the National Professional Fishing League, a league I’m honored to be part of. The challenge of this sport is what keeps it exciting for me, and I’m ready to show what I’ve learned.
The Role of Sponsors: It’s a Team Effort
I couldn’t do this alone, and my sponsors have been a critical part of my journey. It’s not just about logos on a jersey—it’s about relationships built on trust and shared passion. Companies like Power-Pole, Mercury, and others have stood by me through thick and thin. They’ve faced their own challenges in this tough economy, and I’m grateful for their continued support.
When I’m on stage or posting on social media, I want people to see that it’s not just me out there. It’s a team effort, and I’m proud to represent brands that reflect my values: hard work, innovation, and integrity.
Inspiration for the Road Ahead
Looking ahead to 2025, I’m carrying the lessons of last year with me. I’ve learned that no matter how tough it gets, you have to keep moving forward. You have to find the light, even if it’s just a flicker. My faith, my family, and the support of fans have been my anchors, and I’m more determined than ever to keep pushing.
To anyone chasing their dreams—whether it’s in fishing, business, or life—I’d say this: Don’t let the hard days define you. Let them refine you. Those tough moments? That’s where you grow the most. So keep casting, keep believing, and don’t stop until you land what you’re after.
Even in the hardest seasons, there’s something valuable to be learned. And as I gear up for another year on the NPFL trail, I’m ready to face whatever the water has in store—one cast at a time.
