At the halfway point of Day Three, things are tougher on the field. Scott Canterbury is still in control, but Brandon Perkins has cut the gap to 7 ounces, with a smaller-than-1-pound fish in his well. Canterbury, unofficially at 8-9, still has plenty of room to grow, while Perkins is holding strong with two fish over 3 pounds, totaling over 11 pounds on the day.
Day Two runner-up Brandon Cobb has 9-7 on the day, keeping him in contention down the stretch. Cobb has relied on a solid average fish thus far, and that average is eluding him today. With weekend boat traffic and pleasure boaters on Logan Martin, the main lake docks that have been his targets have a lot more water movement.
On-the-water reports indicate that with the high sun and hot conditions, more anglers are fishing offshore brush than working the banks, and with most of the leaders fishing shallow, that bite has been a struggle. The big mover is Jesse Wise, who’s been hanging around throughout the event but is now leading the big bag, according to the Fishing Chaos Catch Track, and has moved into third behind Cobb.
Cobb is in fourth as of now, with Jason Burroughs holding down fifth with 10-9 so far today. As for AOY leader Kyle Welcher, he is sitting in 27th place with a small 5-pound limit. Expect Welcher to keep things close this afternoon, as his 8-point margin over Patrick Walters is easily in jeopardy. Walters has not yet reported a fish on the day, but the four-time NPFL winner has fish in his livewell—we just do not know how big.
The afternoon push for the last flights is still promising, and one big bite can change the course of the weigh-in. Live coverage continues until 1 PM CST for Showdown Saturday, wrapping up the final stop of the 2025 season. Only the Championship remains in a couple of weeks!
