At the halfway point of the event, we’re seeing the bite change. The ledges have been slow, and while the bushes haven’t been lights out, they’ve been more consistent. Several of the day’s leaders on the unofficial Catch Track have leaned on shallow cover to put together solid limits.
Tim Cales, who brought in 15 pounds, 15 ounces on Day One—including the Big Bass—has backed it up with an unofficial 14-12 today, sliding just ahead of Scott Canterbury. After working shallow cover until midday on Day One before moving offshore, the question now is whether Canterbury will follow the same script—or try to upgrade his 12-7 Day Two weight from the bank.
Buddy Gross, who started the day in second, opened on ledges again this morning but hinted to the camera crew he was thinking about heading shallow. A brief trip to the bank produced a few fish, but Gross has since returned offshore to the areas that gave him 16+ pounds yesterday. With a small limit on Day Two, he’s currently dropped to 15th.
Brad Staley and Hunter Sales are both sitting inside the top five with solid limits. Sales may be one of the few sticking exclusively to the offshore bite on a lake he knows well. In fifth, Kyle Welcher has cracked double digits and is in position to make a move this afternoon.
With the afternoon bite still ahead, we’ll see who climbs the FISHING CHAOS CATCH TRACK leaderboard before weigh-in kicks off.
Live coverage is rolling all day and returns for Showdown Saturday tomorrow.
